Which Crystal Type Should You Choose?
You may have been thinking about crystals for some time, wanting to add some around your home or to use for healing.
It can, however, be quite daunting as not only do you have a huge variety of different crystals to choose from, but there are also several different types.
So, which is better?
There are so many different types of crystals to choose from including tumblestones, rough or raw, points, wands or towers, slides, and clusters or geodes.
Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe.......
Tumblestones
Tumblestones (or tumbled stones) as are created rough crystals being polished or smoothed. Each stone will be unique in shape, size and colour. They are easy to hold and are very tactile which, along with generally not being too large, make them one of the most versatile types. They can be used for healing, girds, jewellery or worn in a pocket or bra.
Raw Crystals
Raw or rough crystals are the crystals that come straight from the earth. They are rough and rocky and crystals such as rose quartz or amethyst are often found in this form. They may be cut into smaller pieces, but they will be exactly as they were dug up. Some people believe they can connect to the crystals energy better when raw, but it is a personal preference.
Clusters
A crystal cluster formation has multiple points embedded in the base and because of their formation they radiate energy into the surrounding room or space.
Geodes
Geodes are like little caves, ordinary looking stones that are hollow and filled with crystals. They are stunning stones and the larger stones are often called Cathedrals. These types of crystals have powerful frequencies and can send out a wonderful calming and purifying energy in a space. This is a popular choice for both its power and beauty and Amethyst Cathedrals are the most common.
Slices
Slices are when a gemstone is cut into a thin piece that is then polished. With this type of crystal you can really enjoy the inner beauty of the crystal. These types of crystals are perfect for decoration and adding a peaceful energy to the space. Agate is a very popular choice for slices and you can find many things made with them.
Wands
Wands or points are often used as a healing tool as they are excellent energy transmitters. Towers are similar but can stand on their own rather than being used by hand or in a grid. Quartz is one of the crystals often found as a wand or point and is known for its purifying and cleansing qualities.

Why choose just one?
I don’t really think there is a right or wrong choice when choosing which type of crystal to add to your collection, but a lot will depend upon how you want to use it. If you want something imposing for decoration, a Cathedral would be the way to go. But if it is for healing purposes, then the choice will come down to what is comfortable for you.
What is more important than the type is the actual crystal. What do you want it to do? How does it feel when you hold it? What are you most drawn to?
Buying online can be more difficult but so long as you choose a reputable or recommended store you should be okay. I still think you can choose intuitively even from photographs and it will always be the right one.
But above all, have fun with your collection and watch it grow!
