Oracle Cards for Self-Care

A memory came up for me on Facebook this week: a meme about Wonder Woman being a mindset.

It took a minute, to be honest, for me to remember what that was all about.  Then it hit me lake a cold flannel across the face.

3 years ago, I found out I had breast cancer for the second time.  Not really something you expect to forget.

Memories

I think subconsciously I remembered.  I’ve been feely quite on edge the last few days not really knowing why.  I totally accept that it could be due to the Full Moon or Mercury in Retrograde, but it could also be because it’s that time of year.

I’m surprised that it wasn’t more on my mind but I’m also quite proud of myself for not letting it take over.

Don’t get me wrong, getting to this time of year is of course a celebratory achievement as it means I’m still alive.

However, it also means it’s time to go back and see my Consultant and my annual mammogram. I know that having a mammogram is a good thing, but it makes me feel nauseous. It doesn’t hurt (honest) but I find myself watching the radiographer trying to interpret every little facial expression and eye movement like I’m some sort of human lie detector.

It has been a rollercoaster the last few years but the rollercoaster of  life changes.  The lows become less and not as dramatic; the highs become more and dizzy with excitement rather than fear of heights.

We are allowed those moments, times when we acknowledge that life didn’t go according to plan.  Times to perhaps grieve our losses; the obvious ones and the ones that no one else knows about.

A new Self Care

Over the last few years, I have found what works for me, what helps me get through the continuing challenges with less anxiety and overwhelm, and more control and strength.  I love using crystals and reiki for those times when I can get time for myself, to hold space allow the energies to do their work.

Oracle cards are also a great way to start the day and something I try to include in my routine.  In the morning I pull a card to guide me as to what energies are around me that day and to give my mind something to consider and ponder on as opposed to the fraught thoughts zooming around.

I have also started a practice of noting the card down in my journal, along with anything that comes up during the day.  Its also interesting to look back on what cards appear more often and whether there is a pattern.

A Card a day

Today’s card was Joy and Contentment.  At first glance my thoughts were “huh”.  There is still a part of me that expects a card to say, “You will win £10 on the lottery tonight”! But that’s not really the kind of message we need even if we want it.

Oracle cards give you guidance as to what you need to know or hear, and it can take a moment to listen and understand and know that the guidance is personal to you.

For me, being content is about being present and finding joy in the little things around you; doing what makes you happy and what brings you quiet and stillness; allowing the overwhelm to subside with positive energy bringing in changes.

Joy and Contentment

Just that short message shifted my mind today.  Like flicking a switch.  Instantly made me smile and be thankful.  Life is certainly more positive for me than even this time last year and I know that this will continue.

I have really noticed a positive difference in my mental health, my mood, self-confidence and “Wonder Woman” mindset since using my oracle cards regularly.  Dealing with a second breast cancer diagnosis is one hell of a challenge, but it has not been the only one I have had to face over the last 3 years, including periods of depression, anxiety and being made redundant.

My collection consists of many different decks, each one bringing a different energy and I know that I will always be drawn to the right one.

Having oracle cards to go to has really helped guide me through, helped me to look after myself and tap into that strength that I believe we all have inside us.

There is no doubt in my mind that oracle cards can be used to help navigate through any situation if you are willing to join in the journey.

Hi, I'm Fiona

I’m Fiona — Reiki Master, Crystal Therapist, Oracle Card Reader and firm believer that sometimes life takes us in directions we never expected.

My own journey into complementary therapies and spirituality began after my first breast cancer diagnosis and has continued through many twists, turns and another two diagnoses along the way.

This is where I share a little more of that journey — along with my thoughts on Reiki, crystals, Oracle Cards, spirituality and navigating life when it doesn’t quite go according to plan.

Sometimes thoughtful. Sometimes spiritual. Sometimes with a healthy dose of humour.

Because life is rarely just one thing.
